The Whole Story Behind one Photograph

Each month a kraft envelope shows up with a numbered dispatch inside — a letter about a single animal I found and photographed here in the Southeast. What I saw. Where I was standing. What it was doing, and why it was doing it. I sign every one by hand.

Dispatch No. 001 is a three-month-old barred owlet from Radnor Lake State Park. The one that screeches at its parents for dinner, and climbs back up the tree trunk with its beak and a lot of flapping when it falls.

Turn the page and there’s a map I created of the park and where I found it — and somewhere on that map is a small owl sketch marking the exact spot. Finding it is half the fun. (There’s a note on the map for the grown-ups: it’s an illustration, take a real trail map if you go.)

The postcard comes in the envelope with the back left blank. That’s on purpose. Your kid can write on it, stamp it, and mail that month’s animal to a cousin, a teacher, an friend.

When does it ship? Your first postcard goes out the day you order. Every mailing after that leaves on the 8th of the month.

Do I have to subscribe? No. Pay once for 3, 6, or 12 months, or buy a single mailing. No renewal, no card kept on file.

Should I buy both products? No — the Field Dispatch already includes that month’s postcard. Pick one.

Can I cancel the monthly plan? Any time, from the link in your receipt. No email required, no questions asked.

Are the photos real? Every one. I take them myself in the Southeastern United States. No stock imagery, no AI.

Can I send it to a different address? Yes — enter the recipient’s address at checkout. The receipt stays out of the envelope.
